- Stemmen is gratis.

A map of the Netherlands where places have a boss
Vote for your own city for free, and one paid spot per municipality for whoever wants to stand there.
What it is
owntown.lol is a map of the Netherlands with two layers that work independently.
- Voting is free. No account, no email address. Your vote colours the map and sets the order in the standings.
- Becoming the boss costs money. Whoever pays the most puts their logo, title, description and link on one municipality — until someone takes over.
Being the boss is a playful ad slot, not an official title. It gives you no connection to, or say over, the actual municipality.
How it works
Every municipality starts at a base price. Taking a spot over costs at least 20% more than the previous boss paid, and you may sit higher to make it harder for the next person. If someone takes over from you, you get nothing back — you paid for the time you were there.
The full rules, prices and edge cases are in How it works and Becoming a boss. The legal side is in the terms and the privacy statement.
Why the cities first
We start with the 51 largest municipalities. Not because the rest do not count, but because 342 dots on a phone screen stop being a map, and a handful of votes spread over 342 places produces no number worth reading anywhere. Once there are enough people, the remaining municipalities switch on, and after that the towns and villages.
Privacy in short
We never store your IP address. An irreversible fingerprint is taken over it with a key that changes every month, so old rows cannot be tied to anyone — not even by us. We do not store your email address on a purchase either. There is no tracking on the site and no advertising cookies. The details are in the privacy statement.
Who makes it
owntown.lol is a small, independent project — built and maintained by one person, with no investors and no ad network. The idea is taken from memleket.lol, the same setup for the Turkish provinces.
Map data comes from CBS and PDOK, via cartomap/nl. Population figures come from CBS open data. The site runs on Cloudflare; payments will run through Mollie using iDEAL.
